Let's go fly!

Earlier I posted that Jay gave me a flying lesson for Christmas. Well, I cashed in my certificate and went flying! Jay and I headed to the Ogden Airport Feb. 12th. We used this as part of our Valentines weekend. So I will break down what happened and let you know what it was like for me.
Me and "my" plane.
First I met my teacher and we headed into the training room for an overview of the instruments, what they do, and what they mean to me as I am flying. Surprisingly not as complicated as I thought it would be. Then we headed to the plane. Just a little 4 seater, so I was nervous that I was going to get sick because of the size and how bumpy turbulence would be. Anyway, we will get to that in a bit. My instructor and I went through the inside of the plane then the outside checking to make sure everything was in working order, I checked the lights, any damage, the gas, oil, everything. My instructor was way cool and let me take full control of everything, checking the plane and flying (coming up). Once the check was over we grabbed Jay, got in the plane, and headed out.
Ready to go
The one thing that I didn't do was the take off and the landing but I did have my hands on the yolk and feet on the pedals so I could feel what it was like, which I was fine with, other than that I had full control of the plane the whole hour flight!
Me on the left flying the plane.
Now to the best part, THE FLIGHT! What an amazing experience! I hope I never forget it. We took the airplane up towards Brigham City, over the mountains which was so so beautiful. All the snow capped mountains were breathtaking, we hung out there for quite a bit of time, none of us wanted to leave that area. I will tell you though that is where the turbulence was and boy is that weird to feel while actually flying. It kept throwing me off because in a car or boat you kind of know a bump is coming and expect it, however, in a plane you have no idea it's coming and what a weird feeling. It freaked me out the first time, I thought I did something wrong to the plane, but was reassured all was good. Next we headed into Mantua, worked on my turns and just playing around. When my instructor had me make my first 30* turn I was laughing my head off because for some reason my brain was telling me that I was going to fall out of the plane, even though I was strapped in and encased inside a metal object. I knew I wasn't going to fall out but the feeling was so real! So of course I had to do another turn to feel that again. I think my instructor thought I was a little strange for laughing at that feeling! But it was a funny feeling and completely unrealistic. Anyway we crossed over the mountains again and headed back to Ogden Airport. Just to let you know at this point I was not feeling sick. On our way in my instructor wanted to show me a touch and go, so we touched down and took off again. Now this was the only part I got a little sick on, not sure why but I did. Anyway, we came back around and landed the plane, as I was driving the plane to its parking spot the lady over the headset announced "I want to wish a Happy Birthday to the new flyer" (me). I didn't realize she was talking about me since it wasn't my birthday, so I looked at my instructor thinking it was his. He then realized it wasn't my birthday and remembered it was for Christmas, we told the lady and she just laughed jokingly got mad at my instructor and corrected the mistake. It was pretty funny, one of those you had to be there moments. Well, I will say I had a wonderful time and would love to head out and fly again. This was one thing I have always wanted to do since I was little and it was better than I could have imagined!
Finishing our flight.
Me stepping out of the plane.
Me after my flight. I could have hugged the plane I had so much fun!
Jay and I after our flight
Thank you Jay for an amazing gift and for sharing the experience with me! I love you.
If you are reading this part I am amazed, because that was a long post. Thanks for sticking in and reading it all.

Ava 2 year photos

I was so proud of Ava on Friday. We went to get her two year photos and Ava did such a good job. Driving there she sat forward the whole time and didn't mess her hair up. I didn't even have to ask her to. She just knew. When we got there Ava was so good and mostly willing to do any pose and smile for the camera. I sure helped that the photographer was real great with Ava. While we were waiting to see the photos I took Ava to the play area in the mall and let her run around for a while. So I don't have the prints yet so these are the copies off the kiddie kandids site.
Oh man, I love this mug!

Ava's Birthday!

Monday (Jan. 31st) was Ava's birthday. I can't believe she is 2 years old! Time really does fly. I feel so blessed to have Ava as my daughter, she makes us laugh, rediscover the world and take time to enjoy everything again. I love showing her the world, and teaching her about the joys of life. This year we actually celebrated for 3 days.
Saturday we went into Salt Lake and watched a dance production called Circle Cycle. It was really fun. The whole production was about circles of course. They used hula hoops, exercise balls, balloons, and bouncing balls the different dances. The performance was an hour and a half long (didn't feel like it) and Ava sat there and watched the whole thing. She was completely involved, sucked into the atmosphere, and loved the whole thing. She even clapped at the right time!
On Sunday we went to Grannies, and Papa's house. We had our official party there. We had a Minnie Mouse themed party. Ava played on her new mini sized table, we had a great dinner, opened presents and watched Ava go crazy with her cake and cupcakes. I think she had a great time and it was really nice to celebrate her birthday with Granny and Papa.
On Monday I took Ava to the Treehouse Museum. She ran around for 3 hours trying everything and exploring so many new and fun things.
Ava, you truly are the best gift I have ever had, I love watching you grow and really, truly am thankful for you and to be your mother. Happy Birthday Bug!
Ava loves to play our piano at home and one of the first things she finds at the Treehouse is this giant piano.

Ava loved the drawing room. I think it may have been her favorite area.

Ava loved the Bear walking around. She was always trying to find the bear so she could give it a high five.

Getting ready for baby.

Well Ava seems to be anyway. She loves her little stuffed bunny, "The Associate", and pretends that he is her baby. She makes me wrap him up so she can rock, feed him carrot juice, push him in the stroller, and shush him to sleep. When he finally does go to "sleep" she lays him in her bed puts a blanket over top of him, kisses him and tells him "night night". And of course if I talk above a whisper while he is taking a nap she gives me a stern look and shushes me, then reminds me he is sleeping. It's so funny! She (i think) will be a great help when the baby comes, aside from her wonderful 2 year old temper tantrums that is. Man those are harsh. Here are the shots I took of her and her bunny.

Sunny St. George!

Last week (Jan. 14-17) Jay took Ava and me down to St. George, my mom is down there right now serving a mission and we haven't seen her since Sept.
Mom and Ava
Ava was playing hide and seek at Grandma's place (not the best hider) and fell asleep while hiding. This is the TV stand.
Heading home Jay bought us Carl's Jr. for dinner. I'm not sure but I think this was the smallest burger they have. Ava actually really liked it! She ate 2/3 of that thing.
We went down to see her and some friends of ours we don't get to see as much as we would like. Anyway, we were lucky enough to stay with mom and hang out with her all weekend. We picked a great weekend to go down too. It was warm, sunny, and beautiful! While we were down there we drove mom around and showed her different areas where she hadn't been yet and some places to do day hikes. We also took her to Zion which was free for the weekend. We hiked up Angels Landing, not to the very top because we took Ava in the backpack and you probably needed crampons to get up there. Lots of ice. So we just hiked up to the flats before the steep hike to the very top. On our way up we had to walk "Walter's Wiggles" which are steep switch backs on the back side of
the mountain. They were covered in snow and ice making it very very hard to climb up without falling. I saw at least 4 people slip and fall and Jay said the girl in front of him and some ice chunks fall on her head that melted away from the the cliff. On our way back down we found it was easiest to sit down and slide down the trail. It was a blast! Ava got a little nervous on the way down but realized we were all laughing then she relaxed and kept yelling for more.

So this is me sliding down the trail. It doesn't look too slick or steep from this angle but trust me it was. You really couldn't stop yourself until you ran into the cliff wall

Later that day we were able to hang out with our friends the Lenharts and Coats. I always love hanging out with them and now that Ava is older she can play with their kids and we can all hang out with no worries. We had dinner with them that night and I swear it was one of the worst nights for staying hungry due to pregnancy. I had a big breakfast good size lunch and a large salad with a whole loaf of bread from Iggy's for dinner. Then, since I was still hungry, I ate half a bag of popcorn, two granola bars, after we left we went get me some french toast sticks and a cream slushy. Of course I was still hungry but thank goodness by that time I was tired enough I went to bed. Man this pregnancy has really made me hungry all the time. Very different from Ava. During the trip and up til yesterday I have had the weirdest craving for Neco candy hearts. I have now found out it wasn't for the taste, though they are good, it was for the way they cracked and crunched when I chewed them. I found this out because I was still popping them in my mouth even though I was about to trow up from eating so many. I really couldn't stop! The rest of the time in St. George was relaxing. We just hung out and basked in the sun. So wonderful. I always love being in St. George and almost always have a very hard time leaving. Maybe one day we will have a place to stay down there all the time. Thank you everyone for such a great time! I miss you already and can't wait for our next trip.
